Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
What is massage therapy?
Massage is the manipulation of the body's soft tissues for the purpose of decreasing pain and tension, reducing stress, and promoting better health. Your therapist may use kneading, pressing, squeezing, gliding, or other applications.
What do I do at my first appointment?
You will be asked to complete a brief medical history form. You will then be shown to a room where your massage will take place. Your massage therapist will then leave the room while you undress and relax onto the table, covering yourself with a clean, fresh sheet or towel.
What do I wear?
You may wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. You will be draped at all times, except for the area being worked on. For a full body massage, most people undress completely, though you may choose to wear underwear.
What should I do during massage therapy?
Make yourself comfortable. If your massage therapist wants you to adjust your position, they will either move you or ask for your assistance. Most people just close their eyes and relax during a massage, others prefer to talk.
What should I do after massage therapy?
Drink at least 8 oz. of water immediately following your massage. Then continue to drink water that day and the day after to assist in flushing toxins from your body. The use of heat therapy (i.e. heating pad, hot bath/shower or hot tub) will aid in releasing tense muscles and to prevent extreme soreness.
